Source of all light,
Genesis of the morning,
God of our lives …
For the gift of this new day, we give you thanks
For a season in which we can name the reality of death
& the despair of dark nights, we give you thanks
.
For the promise of alleluias still to come,
We give you thanks.
Root us in this space.
Ground us in this season.
Settle our very souls—
For we so seldom stop to be still,
And we too frequently fail to find patience,
And we are too adept at accepting our own avoidance.
Help us to lean into the darkness before the dawn,
to sit with sorrow,
and to seek the silence in which this Lenten season is steeped.
As we wait for that which is coming
but is still not yet,
May all that you are
summon us to reverence
& call us ever closer to you.
In Christ’s name,
Amen.
